For the money this is a good value.
The hotel was close to the center of town but in a rundown area.
The hosts were very knd and informative. The room was great. The courtyard was beautiful.

The del Cid is a La Serena find!
    Nothing negative to add.
The del Cid is run by John, a Scottish ex-pat who only wants the best for his guests. Immensely helpful, John gave directions, placed phone calls, called taxis, etc. When our flight was canceled and we (and another party) needed immediate accommodation, John provided. The facility itself is nice, though not fancy. The layout combines traditional rooms and rooms off open courtyards. There are plenty of places for sitting and relaxing, both indoors and out. And there is an ample, gated car park for drivers. The rooms themselves are rather small, but have en suite bathrooms. Water temp and pressure was very good. The location is about three blocks from the main shopping streets and a couple of blocks more to Plaza Armas.

La Serena and the Elqui valley
The staff did everything possible to make our trip a good experience. They invited us to stay and make ourselves comfortable until our bus left.

Courtyard is the best part of the hotel.
The rooms were very stuffy - no circulation. The owner at first told us how there was nothing to do at night except go to the bars further downtown. But then when we only stayed one day he seemed insulted. You had to walk down a seemingly deserted street in order to arrive at the hotel.
There was a beautiful courtyard that we sat in and relaxed. They had a map and showed us where the nearest supermarket was.
